1. AN INTEGRATED DELIVERY MODEL The suite of tools is designed to suit an integrated delivery and assessment approach. We have prepared the assessment activities in line with the most common clustering of units of competency.
3. ASSESSMENT AGAINST INDIVIDUAL UNITS OF COMPETENCY Having just explained that the assessment activities support integrated delivery and assessment, they can also be used to assess individual units. There are assessment tables in each booklet that identify every unit so it is easy to see what can be "pulled out" to suit your needs.
4. SELF-PACED AND ON-LINE LEARNING The assessment activities have been designed with face-to-face delivery in mind. But they are clearly laid out with detailed written instructions to the candidate. They can easily be adapted to support distance learning and modified slightly for use in on-line learning management systems. We have developed some tools including the workplace project and third party reports to support distance learning.
5. THE RTOhelp DESIGN MODEL We have given a lot of thought to the amount of evidence needed to gain the TAE40110. Our solution is a two pronged approach:
Simulated holistic assessments activities commenced in class or with trainer support
Integrated assessment covering multiple units in the workplace and independent projects
The simulated activities are designed for the classroom and include supporting templates and resources. Simulated assessment will ensure that when students complete the coursework, they will have usually completed more than 50% of the assessment requirements for the combined units/ module. Simulation will suit a public course where there is a mix of students, many of whom have not as yet identified a "practice environment". The simulations use partial group work and a scenario approach makes the assessment more engaging for both the trainer and the learners.
6. WELCOME TO BUSINESS TRAINING PLUS! a small RTO The simulated assessment activities use recurring scenarios in a small RTO called Business Training Plus! Your students are consultants working for the RTO. This scenario across the modules will give a greater sense of linkage between modules and help trainers explain the cross-over between modules.
7. WORKPLACE PROJECTS HAVE DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS AND SPECIFIC GUIDELINES Students will negotiate individual projects with their assessor and there are specific written guidelines. Students are encouraged to use these as checklists for each individual project. Every project also has a cover page and details on how to submit the portfolio of work.
8. WORKPLACE PROJECTS ALSO ENCOURAGE USE OF WORKPLACE STANDARDS Where the unit evidence guides allow, the project guidelines will explain how students can prepare workplace projects that draw on work situations and standards (other than units of competency or accredited courses.) Since many students do not work in an RTO environment, this is an important issue if the projects are to be meaningful and "achievable" for your client base.
MORE FEATURES OF THE RTOHELP
TAE10 ASSESSMENT DOCUMENTATION
This section describes the additional features that will appeal to RTO's
and help manage AQTF and training package compliance
1. IT'S YOURS TO MAKE CHANGES AND IMPROVEMENTS The suite of documents comes on CD and folders. This is a one-off purchase. Every tool is in a word format and some matrixes are spreadsheets. It is set up ready to be customised for your organisation. We expect you to manipulate the documents. For example:
Identify your RTO on the cover pages, headers and matrixes
Re-organise and rename the clustering to suit your delivery model
Rework the simulation activities to use different Training Packages / accredited courses / units of
competency to suit your client base
Add in new assessment activities - or your old favourites
Change and improve the tools
Add your own version control in footers
2. THESE ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES CAN FORM THE BASIS OF SESSION PLANS AND BE ADAPTED FOR CREATIVE LEARNING ACTIVITIES We recommend that you develop session plans starting with the units and evidence guides. The design model above could be a starting point for your session plans. PLUS you may not wish to use all the assessment activities as assessments. All the tools can be modified into terrific learning activities. From simple games and quizzes to integrated, meaningful simulations and role plays that your learners will enjoy and use as a model.
3. VALIDATION MATRIXES The assessment activities are supported by mapping matrixes that demonstrate how the units, elements, performance criteria, required skills, required knowledge and critical aspects of evidence are met for each unit. There is also a mapping of critical aspects of evidence in one document.
4. MAINTAINING QUALITY IN PROVIDERS The National VET Regulator (ASQA) and State Training Authorities have rigorous processes for TAE10 compliance. They keep a close watch on provision of this important Training Package. The assessment documentation provided by RTOhelp addresses many requirements of the AQTF standards.
